Genetics Webquest -- Task

Your group will research a genetic disorder. You will take the information you find and present a persuasive oral testimony about that disorder with a mutlimedia presentation to a Senate subcommittee

Step-by-step actions:

* Choose a genetic disorder to research
* Choose a role to assume
* Submit your topic to Mr. Washburn -- follow the link in the left margin.
* Prepare a 3-5 minute oral presentation with a mutlimedia or visual presentation of your disorder
* Provide a bibliography of all resources, including internet sites

Roles:
Note: If you only than three in your group, you may omit the patient or parent.

Doctor:
Describe what the disease is and how it is inherited. Also provide numbers of people affected by the disorder.

What resources do you provide for your patient and their family?

Researcher:
Describe what new research is being done to help people with this disorder.

How is it being treated or prevented?
What new research is needed?
Where are you getting funds for your research now?

Parent:
Describe what life is like on a day-to-day basis.

What problems does your child have and how do you deal with it?
What organizations are available to help you?
How do you find informtaion about this disorder?

Patient:
Describe your day-to-day life

What is your life like?
How do you deal with difficulties associated with your disorder?
What types of daily activities can you do?
What kind of limitations do you have?
What kind of treatments are available?
